Universities Academic Staff Union (UASU) Kibabii University Chapter , as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and  Community Outreach programme, joins the National and County Govt, NGO and other Stakeholders  to mitigate and contain the contracting and spread of the lethal Covid-19 Scourge by donating 100 Litre water tanks, Soap, Sanitizers and masks to the Community especially transport operators as they are the most vulnerable since they interact with a wide range of people who constitute their market segment.

Let us uphold the Presidential Directive and Ministry of Health Guidelines by observing utmost Hygiene Standards by frequently and thoroughly washing our hands with soap, social distancing, staying home and sanitizing.

As a Union, we call upon the Government of Kenya to invest more in Higher Education especially Research to enable dons conduct investigations prior to Epidemics since the Early Warning Alarm Systems shall be established and conventional Short, mid and long-term measures instituted.  Well supported, remunerated and motivated Dons will be retained in Universities forming a formidable pool of front-line information providers, churning out research and publications to the benefit of society.

More importantly, Viable Monitoring and Evaluation mechanisms should be identified to prevent future recurrence.

As we stay at home keeping safe, let us use this opportunity to bond with our families, impart values and virtues in our children, instill life skills in them and supervise them studying.

I applaud the County Government of   Kakamega under H.E Governor Oparanya for having deemed it fit to include Kibabii University in his Covid-19 Emergency Response Committee. With this synergy the virus will be prevented from infiltrating in to the wider Western region and it is our hope that Bungoma County Government will emulate this Transformative, Inter-institutional and Interdisciplinary Approach to Covid-19 Containment.

We acknowledge the unparalleled support of Kibabii University Management and Staff towards this noble initiative targeted to mitigate against the proliferation of COVID-19 pandemic in Bungoma County and beyond.
